Sigourney Weaver Strips Down for Gypsy
She 'bumped' off some monsters in Alien, and 'grinded' against Bill Murray in Ghostbusters, so perhaps Sigourney Weaver is more than prepared to portray legendary stripper Gypsy Rose Lee in the upcoming HBO movie Gypsy and Me. Boasting a script from gay writer Martin Sherman ( Bent, Mrs. Henderson Presents ) , Gypsy and Me looks at her later life, when she left the stage to become a best-selling author and made a tidy bundle selling her life story to be made into the classic musical Gypsy. This new film is based on the book My G-String Mother: At Home and Backstage with Gypsy Rose Lee by Lee's son, Erik Lee Preminger ( who, by age 12, was his mother's business manager ) . Shooting on the stripper saga will happen before the end of the year.
Madonna and Rosie, Together Again on Nip/Tuck
Nip/Tuck's gay creator and executive producer Ryan Murphy has garnered a staggering array of guest stars—from Catherine Deneuve to Kathleen Turner—for the sexy plastic-surgery drama, but now he may have scored the mother of all 'gets': Madonna. Mrs. Ritchie herself is slated to appear next season, opposite her old pal Rosie O'Donnell, who parlayed her guest shot as a lottery winner ( who paid hunky doc Julian McMahon six figures to have sex with her ) into a full-fledged recurring character. Madge and Ro, you may recall, became pals on the set of 1992's A League of Their Own. No word yet on when the episode will air, but Romeo suspects that the network might take out an ad or two when the time comes.
Jason Priestley Serves Up a Side Order
He stole our hearts on Beverly Hills 90210 and was the object of gay affections in Love and Death on Long Island and Die Mommie Die! Now Jason Priestley is returning to series television in Side Order of Life, from gay Oscar-winning producers Dan Jinks and Bruce Cohen ( American Beauty, Big Fish ) . Side Order centers around a young magazine photographer ( Marisa Coughlin ) who reprioritizes her life and calls off her impending wedding after receiving life-changing news that makes her decide to live every day to its fullest. Ten bucks says Priestley plays the gorgeous guy who helps her in her quest to get more out of life. The one-hour drama is set to premiere on everyone's favorite network for women and gay men, Lifetime, this July.
Megan Mullally Headed for Broadway's Young Frankenstein
The late Madeline Kahn left big shoes to fill for any actress taking over one of her roles. But if any contemporary performer could sub for Kahn as Elizabeth in Young Frankenstein—the uptight ice queen who discovers passion at the hands of a reanimated monster—it's bisexual songstress and funny lady Megan Mullally, who will play that very role when Frankenstein becomes a Broadway musical. Following the international success of The Producers, Mel Brooks returns to the stage with this uproarious send-up of classic monster movies, and he's got a strong cast backing him up, including Sutton Foster ( The Drowsy Chaperone ) as Inga and Shuler Hensley ( Tarzan, Oklahoma! ) as the monster ( a role he also played in Van Helsing ) . Three other lead roles have yet to be cast, and there's no word yet on when Frankenstein will stomp into previews.
