Ellen DeGeneres swept the 33rd Annual Daytime Emmy awards for her eponymous talk show, winning host for the second time and earning top show honors for the third consecutive year, according to the Associated Press.
After taking the stage, DeGeneres noted her partneractress Portia de Rossiat the legendary Kodak Theatre, stating, 'Portia, I love you,' StarPulse.com reported.
However, other significant talk show developments took place. Barbara Walters announced that Rosie O'Donnell will replace Meredith Vieira on The View. Vieira is leaving the show to replace Katie Couric, who will take over the CBS Evening News program.
'Well, thank God, because it was either that or Celebrity Fit Club,' cracked O'Donnell, a former Emmy-winning daytime talk host.
The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation ( GLAAD ) issued a statement congratulating O'Donnell. 'Rosie's unique blend of wit, wisdom and passionate family advocacy will be a perfect addition to The View,' GLAAD President Neil Giuliano said.
The news about O'Donnell was just one of several twists for the awards ceremony. For the first time in the show's history, the event was moved from New York to the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, home of the Academy Awards. |
