Former U.S. Rep. Dan Rostenkowski, D-Ill., died at his Wisconsin home, MSNBC.com has reported. He was 82.
Rostenkowski served in the U.S. Congress from 1959 to 1995, but a corruption scandal ended his 42-year career in public service. Raised in Chicago, Rostenkowski was the Democratic committeeman of Chicago's 32nd Ward, keeping this position even while serving in Congress.
He pleaded guilty to mail fraud in 1996, and spent 15 months in federal prison. Then-President Bill Clinton pardoned Rostenkowski in 2000. |
