The 20th annual Chicago's Best WingFest will take place Saturday, April 13, 12-4 p.m., at the UIC Pavilion, 525 S. Frontier will conclude its weekly Sunday night Game of Thrones ( GoT ) dinners and viewing parties on Sunday, April 14, 5-7 p.m., with a wild-boar feast and viewing party of the final episodes of season seven. A Chicago-area pie shop and non-profit that feeds more than 700 people in need each week took home the $10,000 grand prize in a national business makeover giveaway. First Slice Pie Cafe, 5357 N. Ashland Ave., will unveil its new lookand dish out a year's worth of free pie for guestsin a full-scale celebration slated for Saturday, April 27, at 10 a.m. The first 50 guests in line will receive a punch card valid for free pie for a year. Chef/Partner Tony Mantuano and Cubs Manager Joe Maddon revealed that "Maddon's Post" will serve as the official name of their forthcoming two-story 7,400-square-foot restaurant, opening this May. Located at 1119 W. Waveland Ave., Maddon's Post will be steps from historic Wrigley Field and part of Gallagher Way, the entertainment district in the heart of the Wrigleyville neighborhood. Staffers include Executive Chef Aaron Thebault ( who just spent 8 years working alongside Stephanie Izard at Girl & the Goat, most recently as chef de cuisine ) and Wine Director Rachael Lowe ( a Food & Wine "Sommelier of the Year" in 2016 ).
Windy City Smokeout will be held July 12-14 at a new location right outside of Chicago's United Center. Hosted by Bub City and Joe's Bar, the event is the first official outdoor music festival to take place at the West Loop arena's 250,000-square-foot parking lot along Madison Street. Some of the country acts slated to perform are Old Dominion, Jessie James Decker, Parker McCollum, LANCO and Muscadine Bloodline.
One Off Hospitalitywhich has captured seven James Beard awards over the last 20 yearshas announced the addition of a brand new restaurant to its portfolio of Chicago concepts, joining the likes of Blackbird, avec, The Publican and more. Located at Milwaukee, Damen and North avenues in Wicker Park, the group's newest project, Cafe Cancale, will take the place of the group's former Publican Anker concept in late spring/early summer.
Brian Jupiter has changed Frontier's menu in anticipation of Chicago's warmer months. New additions to the "Snack" section of the menu, sold by the piece, include a smoked mushroom fritter ( muenster, confit garlic, rosemary, creamy chimichurri; $3 ) and, back by popular demand, the duck taco ( salsa, queso fresco, crispy potato, red onion, tortilla, cilantro; $5 ). Other new items will include antelope cheesesteak ( $24 ), cucumber salad ( $10 ) and blueberry bread pudding ( $9 ).
LondonHouse Chicago, 85 E. Upper Wacker Dr., brings jazz back to the historic building with a Jazz Brunch Series. Performers throughout the month include the Casey Myles Trio, Petra, Patrick Jasper and the Loyola Academy Jazz Band. Executive Chef Jacob Verstegen crafts a special menu of jazzy brunch eats for the series, including dishes such as shortrib hash browns ( $12 ), with creamed nettles, spring garlic, braised shortrib and a fried egg; smoky biscuits and gravy ( $10 ); and the Coffee & Donuts ( $8 ).
