As Chicago's LGBT library readies to move to Rogers Park, Gerber/Hart Library's current landlord has announced a new tenant for the space.
Rae Ann Cecrle, the landlord of the library's Edgewater home, told Windy City Times that Blue Buddha Boutique, a Chicago-based business that sells chainmaille jewelry, has signed a lease.
The building is being renovated to accommodate the boutique, said Cecrle. A new façade will replace the current discolored brick and interior plans include a build out. The boutique is scheduled to open by August or September.
Some have worried that Gerber/Hart will not be able to move before its lease expires, but Cecrle said that Gerber/Hart has confirmed that it will be out by April 30.
The library is moving amid controversy surrounding its leadership, after community members accused Gerber/Harts board of directors of violating the organization's bylaws by making decisions in secret and then stripping member voting rights without public notice of a meeting.
