The Chicago Cubs and the Chicago White Sox ended their seasons in very different ways.
The Cubs (74-88) defeated the Cincinnati Reds (62-100) 15-2 in Ohio.
Cincinnati lost seven of its last nine games to finish with its recordone shy of the franchise record for losses set by the 1982 team that went 61-101, ESPN noted. The Reds became the record-tying fourth team to lose 100 games this season.
The Cubs actually improved from last season. They finished 74-88 and third in the NL Central, up from 71-91 and fourth last season.
Looking forward to next year, Chicago will open the spring training schedule on Feb. 25, 2023, against San Francisco at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.
The White Sox (81-81) lost to the Minnesota Twins (78-84) 10-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field on Oct. 5 to end its season.
The Twins' Luis Arraez won the AL batting title, edging New York Yankees home-run king Aaron Judge.
The White Sox, last year's AL Central champions, had their three-game winning streak snapped and finished 12 games worse than their 2021 record.
The White Sox's spring-training opener will take place against the San Diego Padres at Glendale, Arizona, on Feb. 25.
