The Crossroads Fund has announced that this year's Ron Sable Awards for Activism will be presented to Illinois Senate President Emil Jones, Jr., Illinois Sen. Carol Ronen, Illinois Rep. Larry McKeon, and Beyondmedia Education at 7:30 p.m. April 22 at the Crossroads Fund 2005 Annual Benefit, Seeds of Change. The event will take place at the Illinois Institute of Technology, 3201 S. State, and will include a silent auction.
The Ron Sable Award for Activism is named after a former Crossroads Fund board member; the first openly gay aldermanic candidate; and a doctor who treated and advocated for people with HIV/AIDS. Each year, Crossroads honors individuals and organizations who reflect Ron's commitment to progressive change and the interconnectedness of issues and struggles across communities.
Jones, Ronen, and McKeon are being honored for their leadership regarding the passage of gay-rights measure that Gov. Rod Blagojevich signed into law.
