Creating Change 2016's host committee gathered for its monthly meeting at the Conrad Sulzer Regional Library May 27 to discuss the National LGBTQ Task Force's 28th conference that will take place Jan. 20-24, 2016, at the Hilton Chicago.
Precious Davis, Kenny Martin-Ocasio, Mary Morten and Joshua Oaks have been named the committee co-chairs. They manage and facilitate the monthly host committee meetings, are charged with overseeing the local subcommittees and also report back to the Task Force on the progress that the committees have made.
Among other things, Davis led what was called a name movement icebreaker activity. Oaks called on attendees to come up with group norms for future host committee and subcommittee meetings. They included to not talk over each other, to assume best intentions and to have fun.
Morten led the subcommittee reports, with each host committee co-chair sharing what's been done so far and what future plans are.
Creating Change will be doing outreach at a number of festivals and events this summer, including Andersonville Midsommarfest, Chicago Pridefest, Dyke March Chicago, the Chicago Pride Parade, Northalsted Market Days, AIDS Run/Walk and others to be announced.
Host committee meetings take place the last Wednesday of every month. The next meeting is June 24, 6-8 p.m., at the Conrad Sulzer Regional Library.
