The family of slain Lakeview resident Kevin Clewer issued a media release on June 24 to explain why they marched in this year's Gay Pride Parade.
In the statement, the family declared that ' [m] arching for Kevin and handing out composite flyers at this year's Gay Pride Parade [was] an effort to promote awareness of the reward and the search for answers.' The family also hoped to send the message that everyone should be careful.
The family added that it marched, 'not to bring sorrow during a time for celebration but rather to be present where Kevin can't. It is our feeling, as we join the thousands celebrating in the PRIDE parade, it is again time to raise awareness by reaching to those who have come from out of town or to those who have not yet seen the suspect composite.'
Clewer was killed March 24, 2004. A man possibly named 'Fernando' is being sought in connection with the incident. He is described as a male, white Hispanic, 5'7' tall, with a slim/athletic build, who speaks with a Hispanic or European Spanish accent. Anyone with information should call Chicago Police, Area Three Homicide, (312) 744-8261; refer to case number HK-259944.
Since the murder occurred 15 months ago, Clewer's mother and father have both died.
