FROM A PRESS RELEASE
The Illinois General Assembly will be voting on the civil-unions bill soon, according to a release from the organization LGBT Change.
LGBT Change is working with the Civil Rights Agenda in order to contact 20,000 LGBT and allied voters in key districts across Illinois to help pass the measure but stressed that it needs "additional volunteers to phone-bank and lobby in Springfield. Groups from around the country are helping with phone-banking, including California, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Washington D.C., Washington State, and Wisconsin."
They are asking people to help in two ways:
Local action: LGBT Change is urging people to call their legislators to get them to vote "yes" on the Civil Unions and Religious Freedom Act ( SB 1716, House Amendment 1 ) . People can find their local lawmakers at http://www.elections.il.gov/DistrictLocator/DistrictOfficialSearchByAddress.aspx.
Phone banks: Those who wish you call from home can e-mail Stacy Lemery at stacy@lgbtchange.org to receive log-in information.
There will be phone banks set-up in Evanston and Oak Park as well as Chicago's West Side, North Side, South Side and the Loop on:
