Local gay icon Chuck Renslow—who, among other things, is currently president of Leather Archives & Museum, 6418 N. Greenview—has released Kris: The Physique Photography of Chuck Renslow ($39.95; The Nazca Plains Corporation). In 1950, Renslow founded and was the photographer of Kris Studios, one of the earliest and most durable of the physique houses (and one where leather always had a place). The book is chock full of pictures of models (clothed and nude) placed in categories such as ‘Bodybuilders and muscles’—and don’t miss the notes at the end, where Renslow gives some (more) provocative glimpses about the men in the photographs.
The book is edited by Joseph Bean, a former executive director of the Leather Archives & Museum. It is available at www.Amazon.com. The prints have been donated to the Leather Archives & Museum..
