The defending WNBA champion Chicago Sky lost their season/home opener 98-91 to the Los Angeles Sparks in overtime at Wintrust Arena.
The game was the Sky's first season-opener at home since 2016.
It was a career-high night for guard Dana Evans, who led the Sky with 23 points, five assists and three steals; Candace Parker scored or assisted on the first 14 Sky points; and Courtney Vandersloot had eight assists. Jordin Canada had 21 points to lead the Sparks.
The Sky will stay at home Wed., May 11, at Wintrust Arena against the New York Liberty. Head coach Sandy Brondello will make her season debut with the Liberty, after six years with the Phoenix Mercury.
The Chicago White Sox (12-13) defeated the host Boston Red Sox (10-17) 4-2 on May 6 to extend their win streak to four games.
Luis Robert hit a two-run homer and Vince Velasquez pitched five solid innings, per ESPN. Tim Anderson had three singles, and Reese McGuire and Jose Abreu each contributed a sacrifice fly for the defending AL Central champions.
The teams will meet again Saturday, May 7, in Boston.
The Chicago Cubs' May 6 game against the Los Angeles Dodgers was postponed due to inclement weather.
According to the Cubs' official Twitter account, "The makeup game is scheduled for tomorrow, May 7, at 6:40 p.m. CDT, as the second game of a split doubleheader. The originally scheduled game has been shifted to start at 12:05 p.m."
