On July 7, the Chicago Sky (16-6) defeated the Indiana Fever (5-19) 93-85 at Indiana Farmers Coliseum.
The Sky officially clinched home-court advantage at the Commissioner's Cup after beating the Feverand also already equaled their win total from last season, when they went 16-16 on their way to winning the WNBA title.
The 6'4" forward Emma Meesseman led the Sky with 20 points.
The Sky will return home to play the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday, July 12. The tipoff at Wintrust Arena is at 7 p.m. CT and will air on CW 26, Bally Sports Southeast and TSN.
The Chicago Bulls announced that the team has re-signed guard Zach LaVine, per a press release.
In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed. However, ABC 7 Chicago reported that he agreed to a five-year max contract worth about $215 million.
Since arriving in Chicago, the 6'5" LaVine has been selected an NBA All-Star twice (2021, 2022), and won a gold medal with Team USA in the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo. His 24.5 ppg scoring average with the Bulls ranks second in franchise history, trailing only Michael Jordan (31.5 ppg).
Chicago took a huge step last season, winning 46 games with LaVine, DeMar DeRozan and Nikola Vucevic leading the way. However, the Bulls struggled against the top-tier teams.
Besides keeping LaVine, they added depth in the backcourt and up front by agreeing to deals with veteran guard Goran Dragic and Andre Drummond to help the team take another step, the Tribune noted.
Both of Chicago's MLB teams lost July 7.
The Chicago White Sox (39-42) fell to the Detroit Tigers (25-47) 2-1 at Guaranteed Rate Field.
Rookie Beau Brieske outpitched Dylan Cease while former Chicago Cubs Javier Baez homered for Detroit, CBS 2 Chicago noted. The Cubs traded Baez to the New York Mets last July.
Cease went six innings, allowing one run on three hits. He struck out eight and walked three.

As for the Cubs (34-49), they lost 5-3 at the Los Angeles Dodgers (53-29).
The NL West leaders won their fourth in a row, Yahoo! Sports noted.
At one point, the Cubs fell behind 4-0 but cut their deficit to 4-2 on Christopher Morel's two-run homer with two outs in the fifth.
