Windy City Black Pride 2007, which started last weekend and was to conclude July 4, showcased many different activities and kept guests entertained and informed.

Among the events that took place June 30 at the Illinois Institute of Technology's ( IIT's ) Hermann Hall, 3241 S. Federal, were a vendor fair, workshops, an awards presentation, a poetry slam and a youth party. The workshops were particularly informative, with presentations held on everything from relationships to interacting with the media.

For many, the highlight of the weekend was a worship service/festival that took place July 1 at Sherman Park, 5440 S. Racine.

Charles E. Nelson II, President of Chicago Windy City Black Pride, said in a statement that ' [ w ] e have dedicated ourselves to celebrating and empowering our diverse community for a decade. Pride is more than a series of parties; it is a vital part of the work to be seen and heard in our communities and to have our families recognized in the culture at large.'

However, as part of the aforementioned celebrating, there were certainly nighttime social events that kept people dancing until the wee hours, including a July 2 party with Mz. Ruffy at Circuit, 3641 N. Halsted, and the all-female 'White Party 2007' on June 30 at the Park West, 322 W. Armitage. Photos by Kat Fitzgerald and Andrew Davis
