The Chicago Pride Parade is back in business.
After being out of commission for two years, the event will take place for the first time this decade on Sunday, June 26.
Organizer Tim Fryethe widower of previous organizer Richard Pfeifferemailed Windy City Times, "The Parade application forms will go out next week. The parade will be in-person on Sunday, June 26. It will be dedicated to Richard.
"Even though it won't take place during LGBTQ History Month, we plan to honor those groups that safeguard our history much as we had planned for last year."
The parade was supposed to take place last year on Oct. 3, during LGBT History Month. However, a press release sent in September announced the cancellation of that event: "Our primary reason was, with the advent of three effective vaccines, we felt that the late date would allow for most people to be vaccinated and, thus, make it much safer to have a parade. Sadly, we were very naive in that belief or, a more accurate word, 'hope.' Everyone knows the reasons we were wrong in our estimate as to how safe things would be in the fall. Leave it at that."
