CHICAGOChicago's National Organization for Women Political Action Committee, a leading feminist organization in Chicago focused in the areas of economic equity, women's health, reproductive freedom, ending violence against women, and LGBTQ rights, has made their official endorsements in the 2016 March 15th Primary Election, endorsing Democrat Kim Foxx over incumbent Anita Alvarez for Cook County State's Attorney.
"Chicago NOW PAC strongly endorses Kim Foxx's candidacy for State's Attorney. We firmly believe that Foxx will be the strongest advocate for women, and will be a champion for victims as they fight for justice," said Kelly Marie Murphy, Chicago NOW PAC President.
"Victims of violent crimes in Chicago need an advocate who will fight them, and we believe that Kim Foxx is the best person for the job."
The Chicago NOW PAC endorsement comes during a high-profile controversy in the State's Attorney office, with current State's Attorney Anita Alvarez at the center of it.
"Victims and their families need and deserve a State's Attorney who will prosecute cases with expediency," Murphy said. "State's Attorney Anita Alvarez has been an effective prosecutor in domestic violence cases, but our city cannot afford to maintain the status quo our community needs faith restored in our justice system, and that starts will electing a new, independent leader to the office of State's Attorney."
Chicago NOW strives to be a major force in fostering gender equality, social change, and social justice in the Chicago community, and Chicago NOW PAC is an integral part of Chicago elections by supporting candidates that uphold and fight for those values.
