Chicago Gay Men's Chorus to Sing at Wrigley Field

Last week's landmark invitation is echoing down the streets of Wrigleyville and Lakeview East, as the 185-member Chicago Gay Men's Chorus (CGMC) prepares to open the Saturday, Sept. 27 Chicago Cubs home game against the Pittsburgh Pirates by singing the National Anthem. This step forward is the result of 44th Ward Ald. Tom Tunney's leadership, and is believed to be the first time the Cubs have officially made such an effort of good will in inviting a GLBT chorus to publicly perform at a game.

CGMC vice-president and founding member Danny Kopelson highlighted this significance. 'We are delighted and honored that the Cubs have included the Chicago Gay Men's Chorus as representatives of the broader gay community. We couldn't be happier.' Kopelson continues, 'To sing the National Anthem at a sold-out game on national television proves that things are changing in the world. It is also great to know that the chorus' access to venues and audiences such as this can and does effect positive social change in the city, country and for GLBT rights.'

'What a triumph for CGMC to represent the gay community for what is the first time at Wrigley Field. And what a grand kickoff to what promises to be our best season yet,' commented Patrick Sinozich, CGMC's artistic director.

Now beginning its 22nd season, The Chicago Gay Men's Chorus has produced a wide variety of music, theater and dance for the educational and cultural enrichment of the community.
