X Chromosome Films is proud to announce Yasmina Cadiz as one of the 2006 Illinois Arts Council (IAC) Media Arts Fellowship Award recipients. The Artists Fellowships recognize the artistic excellence of Illinois artists for their outstanding work and commitment within the arts by awarding Fellowships of $7,000 each.

The Artists Fellowship Program offers funding for 12 artistic disciplines on a two-year rotating cycle. This year’s Fellowship recipients were selected from 550 creative artists working in seven disciplines: Choreography, Crafts, Ethnic and Folk Arts, Media Arts, New Performance Forms, Prose and Scriptworks.

‘We are inspired by the breadth of innovation and creativity of this year’s Fellows. These artists redefine and expand our notions of independent media. They represent some of the most talented individuals currently working in the independent arts field in Illinois.’

Yasmina Cadiz’s film Mama Said is a portrait of an abandoned young girl with a remarkable will to survive. The film won the ‘AUDIENCE AWARD’ at the San Francisco International Film Festival 2005, and will be broadcast on SíTV, the first English-language Latino cable network, and by PBS affiliate program Image Union, in Spring 2006.
