National speakers, local entertainment, youth and experienced activists converged Saturday for the 2nd Chicago Collegiate Pride fest, held at the Cultural Center downtown.
The University of Illinois at Chicago, Columbia College Chicago, Northwestern University, Roosevelt University, and the University of Chicago partnered with the City of Chicago Commission on Human Relations Advisory Council on Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Issues to present 'Chicago Collegiate Pride Fest 2003.
Unison and Genesis Connection, LGBT choruses, performed, along with Dramatic Diversity, Chicago Kings, Amy Armstrong and Freddie Allen, and more.
Activist Robin Ochs moderated a National Discussion with audience participation, featuring Riki Wilchins, executive director of the Gender Public Advocacy Coalition (GenderPAC), and Michelangelo Signorile, columnist for OUT magazine and Windy City Times, among other publications.
About 200 youth and other activists attended the event. There was strong presence not just from the sponsoring schools, but also from many others, including Northern Illinois University in DeKalb and the City Colleges.
