Windy City Media Group this week announces some additions and changes at WCMG and Windy City Times newspaper.
Business Manager Meghan Streit is starting her master's degree in journalism at Northwestern University, so she will move to a consultant position. WCMG's new Business Manager is Cynthia Holmes. She is originally from Lake Orion, Mich., and attended the University of Michigan, where she majored in Women's Studies. She recently completed her master's degree from the University of Chicago's School of Social Service Administration, where she focused on nonprofit administration and management.
Cynthia is also a board member for the Chicago Chapter of the National Organization for Women, where she serves as the volunteer coordinator. She has a vast experience in working with nonprofits, and has focused on the issues of gender, sex, sexuality, STD's, and HIV/AIDS.
WCMC Publisher and Managing Editor Tracy Baim will now have the title of Publisher and Executive Editor. She is focusing much of the next six months on her volunteer work as co-vice chair of the Gay Games VII board of directors, and continuing oversight of the business and editorial functions of WCMG.
The new Managing Editor of Windy City Times will be Andrew Davis, a long-time writer for all WCMG publications.
Davis was born in South Carolina but grew up in the Tidewater area of Virginia, near the Chesapeake Bay. After excelling in high school, he attended Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., where he majored in biology. He later attended Northwestern University in Chicago to pursue a Ph.D. in microbiology. However, he left the program after a year and ended up graduating from Northwestern University School of Law.
He saw writing as his true calling and initially worked for what was then OUTlines ( now Windy City Times ) in 1994 as a freelance writer specializing in Internet-related issues. After a while, he started penning columns regarding other topics, including health/fitness and business.
Andrew joined the Windy City Times staff as a full-time news reporter in September 2004. Since joining, he has covered a wide range of issues and has spoken with everyone from politicians to designers. Andrew is proud of receiving The Max Robinson Media Communication Award from the Let's Talk, Let's Test Foundation for tackling African-American AIDS issues—but takes just as much pride in being able to bring the news to Chicago's LGBT community every week. Now, as managing editor, he hopes to continue the
Windy City Times tradition of illuminating the community regarding the latest in news and entertainment.
Amy Wooten, 23, joined Windy City Times as a full-time office assistant and reporter in November 2005 after interning for Windy City Times since June 2005. She was raised in the western suburbs, but currently resides in the Edgewater neighborhood. Wooten recently completed her MA in Journalism from Columbia College Chicago. She received her BA in English: Print Journalism from North Central College in Naperville.
At Windy City Media Group, Wooten primarily writes news items for Windy City Time, as well as features, including in-depth health reporting and profiles. Her work has also appeared in Identity. Wooten has also been published in Billiards Digest; The Machine; Safety & Health; Family, Safety & Health and Columbia College's Echo magazine, as well as the Kane County Chronicle and Columbia Chronicle. Throughout her college career, she served as an editor and writer for both College of DuPage's Courier and North Central College's NCC Chronicle newspapers, in addition to other college publications. Both the Illinois College Press Association and Illinois Community College Journalism Association have given Wooten awards and honorable mentions for her writing.
