A new wine is aiming to give LGBT supporters another reason to toast to equality.
New York-based winemaker Biagio Cru & Estate Wines has announced a new "Equality" wine, and the product is benefitting Chicago's Center on Halsted, among others.
The sparkling wine, Égalité (French for "equality"), aims to benefit LGBTQ organizations for youth in addition to celebrating gains made by LGBT people, according to a media release put out by the company.
"With same-sex marriage now legal in states from Maine to New York and Iowa to Washington, this is a time to recognize the hard-earned progress that has been made in pursuit of Equality," said Darren Restivo, one of the principals of Biagio Cru & Estate Wines, in a statement.
The company has donated $1,000 to Center on Halsted, and the wine will be auctioned off at Center on Halsted's upcoming Oscar party.
Other groups benefitting include GLSEN, Equality Maine, The Trevor Project and the Ali Forney Center.
