On May 14, Chicago Public Schools ( CPS ), in partnership with GSA Network and The Egalite Group, presented the annual LGBTQ Prom at Allcott College Prep.
The event, celebrating its sixth year, played host to LGBTQ high school students from as many as 26 schools in Illinois and one in Milwaukee. Precious Brady Davis emceed, with Khloe providing entertainment.
Co-founder and Dean of Students and Community Noa Padowitz, LCSW, said the annual event is "a safe space for kids to come and have a safe, fun time with others like themselves and allies."
The event kicked off with DJ Jennefa setting the mood amidst intricate prom decorations with a dance oriented soundtrack as students gathered and engaged in dialogue with organizations represented in the tabling section. Among the organizations participating were Planned Parenthood, Howard Brown Health Center, The Illinois Safe Schools Alliance, Fab 400, Healthy CPS [The Office of Student Wellness] and Chicago Wears Condoms.com .
The night took off once Brady Davis took the stage and introduced Khloe, who engaged the students by including them in her performance. After the students took a quick dinner break, the prom got in high gear as the students danced, stepped and competed in a lip-syncing contest.
The annual event featured customized prom portraits provided by Jolie Images.
