Fruitcake Toss!
How much gayer can you get? 44th Ward Ald.Tom Tunney will toss out the first fruitcake this weekend for the JOLLYPALOOZA festival. State Rep. Sara Feigenholtz and Cook County Commissioner Mike Quigley will also be tossing for a good cause.
The 105 members of the Central Lake View Merchants Association (CLMA)—bordered on the north by Grace Street, on the south by Diversey Avenue, on the east by Clark Street, and on the west by Racine—are an eclectic mix of retail stores, restaurants, theater groups, etc. They are banding together to up the ante on Holiday Shopping and fun with the weekend of Dec. 6-7, designated JOLLYPALOOZA—great values, giveaways, prizes, and events that you won't find anywhere else—taking place on the streets and in the places of business of CLMA members
Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 6-7, noon-6 p.m., in streets and stores of Central Lakeview. Goody Bags with events map, calendar of events, coupon pages, new 2004 Central Lakeview map, and more (a number of special Goody Bags will contain big-ticket prizes).
Pick up Goody Bags on days of event at: Hubba-Hubba (3309 N. Clark); Trader Todds (3216 N. Sheffield); and City Suites Hotel (933 W. Belmont).
Among the many events:
— YE OLD FRUITCAKE TOSS. 44th Ward Ald. Tunney tosses out the first fruitcake to get this event under way, aided by Feigenholtz and Quigley. The Irish Oak, 3511 N. Clark on Saturday, Dec. 6, 2 p.m. Think: Bozo buckets meet fruitcakes. Bring your own fruitcake, or we will provide one, but be sure to bring a non-perishable item of food as a donation to the Lakeview Pantry as an entrance fee. The better arm you have when you throw Ye Olde Fruitcake—and you know that you want to—the bigger the prize, for kids and adults alike.
— CHRISTMAS CONCERT WITH PATTY ELVIS,' Buddie's, 3301 N. Clark on Saturday, Dec. 6, at 3 p.m. and stick around to take your Holiday foto with Patty, $5/Polaroid, all proceeds to Lakeview Shelter.
— SANTA PAWS: Blum Animal Hospital, 3219 N. Clark, hosts a Holiday Photo-OP for your dog or well-behaved cat on Sunday, Dec. 7, 1-3 p.m. Have their picture taken with Santa for $5/photo, all proceeds to Anti-Cruelty Society and Chicago Care and Control.
