CAKE ( the Chicago Alternative Comics Expo ) took place at Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted Ave., on June 1-2.
According to its website, CAKE "is a weekend-long celebration of independent comics, inspired by Chicago's rich legacy as home to many of underground and alternative comics' most talented artistspast, present and future."
Special guests included Nicholas Gurewitch, Corinne Halbert, Isabella Rotman, Ben Passmore, Rosemary Valero-O'Connell and more.
Just a few of the standouts among exhibitors included Erin Nations, cartoonist/publisher C. Spike Trotman, Kate Lacour ( with the provocative Vivisectionary ), artist/printmaker Eli Howey, Zora Gilbert and Cat Parra ( with their work, A Survey of Queer Looks 1890-2018 ), Sarah Becan ( with her comic-book cookbooks ) and queer cartoonist Tony Breed.
An after-party took place June 1 at Emporium Logan Square, 2363 N. Milwaukee Ave. |
