In NBA action, the Chicago Bulls (28-16) fell short against the defending-champion Milwaukee Bucks (29-19), losing 94-90 in Wisconsin on Jan. 21.
Bulls coach Billy Donovan was livid after the game. He was upset about Bucks guard Grayson Allen's flagrant foul on Alex Caruso and called on the league to investigate, The Chicago Tribune noted.
In the third quarter, Caruso went up for a driving dunk when he was fouled by Allen and fell hard to the floor. Allen was ejected after video confirmed it was a flagrant-2 foul. (The NBA defines the foul as "unnecessary and excessive contact committed by a player against an opponent.")
Donovan said he didn't know what Allen would say about the play but pointed to Allen's "history of doing that all the way back to college" at Duke, where he famously tripped a player.
DeMar DeRozan led the Bulls with 35 points, including 17 of 18 free-throw attempts. Giannis Antetokounmpo had 30 points to lead the Bucks.
The Bulls' next games will be Sunday, Jan. 23, at the Orlando Magic; and Monday, Jan. 24, at the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Also on Jan. 21, the Chicago Blackhawks (15-19-6) lost to the Minnesota Wild (23-10-3) 5-1 at the United Center.
Dylan Strome scored the lone goal for the Blackhawks late in the contest. Marc-Andre Fleury started the game, allowing four goals before Kevin Lankinen took over; he allowed one goal on 17 shots in his first appearance since Dec. 18.
The Blackhawks will next take on … the Wild again, on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota.
The remainder of the Chicago Blackhawks' regular season schedule is now finalized.
