Bridge Tourney in Chicago

While many athletes will be involved in the Gay Games, another set of participants will be embroiled in their own competition.

The North American Bridge Championships will take place July 13-23 at the Hyatt Regency, 151 E. Wacker. Sponsored by the American Contract Bridge League ( ACBL ) , the tournament will draw more than 6,000 players who range from beginner to expert status.

Believe it or not, Chicago has a rich history involving the game, with the city hosting the first national bridge championship in 1927. History will be made again this summer with a schedule that includes the first game co-sponsored by the American Association of Retired Persons at a national tournament. In addition, a group of youth will compete in the College Bridge Team Championship, including squads from the University of Chicago and University of Illinois.

For more info, visit the ACBL web site at www.acbl.org or contact tournament publicity chair Suzi Subeck at 708-481-6819.
