CHICAGO——Producer and comedian Tamale Sepp to host the monthly showcase Brass Chuckles: Comedy that Kicks Ass, to take place on Friday October 5, 2012 at 10:00 PM at the Playground Theater located at 3209 North Halsted Street in Chicago. Admission to the show will be $10.00. The theater is BYOB.
Brass Chuckles is a comedy show that invites fascinating people to come out to play. It's Kick-Ass People Doing Kick-Ass Things. This showcase explores comedy through stand-up, sketch, improv, videos, performance art, live readings of personal narrative work, and other creative methods. The work comes from the artists' experiences in other worlds of performance- drag, burlesque, fire dancing, belly dancing, and other areas of expression. They play in the intersection of comedy and interdisciplinary performance. It's comedic self-expression at its finest.
"Hands down, Tamale Sepp is one of the funniest gals in the city; her show does not disappoint! Good laughs, great time!" Aly Bockler of "You & Me This Morning" on WCIU
"Brass Chuckles is a comedy show that lovingly showcases fascinating people. These people are invited to share their field of expertise though material that is developed around them and their unique abilities. Each show is as different as the people it contains", explains internationally acclaimed multi-disciplinary artist Tamale Sepp, who is the show's "Femme-ce" and producer. "We do bad ass things with bass ass people." This month's show features performances by Kristin Clifford, Alexandra Tsarpalas, Sayjal Joshi, and James Fritz along with a mix of videos featuring gothic teens and rednecks. Past performers include Jet Eveleth, Kelsie Huff, and Gwen La Roka.
After earning her BS in Agricultural Education and Agricultural Technology Management, Tamale wanted to focus on her first love- comedy. She moved to Chicago and completed training at I.O. Chicago, the Second City's Conservatory Program, and Annoyance Theater. She was up to her neck in comedy and loved every minute. Trouble was, there were all these other fun things to do and explore that kept catching her eye.
She began performing burlesque with the Sissy Butch Brothers Burlesque, travelling far and wide with the international gender performance troupe, Windy City Blenders. Tamale began performing drag with members of the Chicago Kings at events like the International Drag King Extravaganza (IDKE). She then picked up fire dancing, performing with members of SPUNN, Pyrotechnique, and Temple of Poi. The serpentine moves of tribal belly dancing seduced her and she began incorporating them into her performances, taking classes with Read My Hips and KC Medicino. She began playing with installation and multi-disciplinary art, earning her MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. Following graduation, she began working with Brigid Murphy (creator of Milly's Orchid Show) writing personal narrative work. Finally Tamale decided that it was time for a show… a comedy show that showcased all these interests and the amazing people she loves to play with, hence Brass Chuckles.
