The Boy Scouts of America has filed for bankruptcy as it deals with approximately 300 lawsuits from men who say they were sexually abused as scouts, media reports stated.
With high-profile sex-abuse scandals in organizations such as the Catholic Church and USA Gymnastics, some states have changed their laws to allow more time for victims of sexual abuse to sue their perpetratorsallowing for new lawsuits from victims who weren't able to file because of statutes of limitations, NPR noted.
The Boy Scouts of America said it was "exploring all options available so we can live up to our social and moral responsibility to equitably compensate victims who suffered abuse during their time in Scouting, while also ensuring that we carry out our mission to serve youth, families and local communities through our programs.
