Maekdo Productions' Black Lesbian Archives Chicago Tour 2019 opening event will take place Saturday, Feb. 23, 6-9:30 p.m., at Gerber/Hart Library and Archives, 6500 N. Clark St. Gerber/Hart is sponsoring the event.
"Black Queer Herstory Chicago" (BQHC) is a collection of video journals and short films of Black LGBTQ Women from Chicago, who have participated in "In the Life" over the past several decades. A film screening and discussion will feature filmmaker Rachael Pierce, a queer Christian filmmaker from Chicago's South Side of Chicago who is committed to the work of growing the visibility of queer people of color on screen and in church leadership.
Chicago is known for being a progressive metropolis with ample, LGBTQ history. However, the stories of the Black women who contributed to that history are regularly overlooked. BQHC is a film series about visibility, celebration and education for the present and generations to come.
