The Bears' defense gave up 262 rushing yards, according to The Chicago Tribune.
Chicago kicker Michael Badgley scored four field goals, accounting for all of the Bears' points. Quarterback Justin Fields was 10 of 21 for 163 yards and ran for 52 yards; also, he was sacked five times, ESPN noted. Khalil Herbert had 77 yards rushing as the Bears lost to the Giants for the first time in four games.
The Bears had a late chance to go on a tying drive after the defense came up with a stop, but rookie returner Velus Jones Jr., who was making his NFL debut, dropped the ball punted to him. The Giants' Gary Brightwell recovered it, and they held on to win.
Chicago will next visit the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, Oct. 9, followed by a game against the Washington Commanders at Soldier Field on Thursday, Oct. 13.
Willson Contreras got several standing ovations in what could be his final home game at Wrigley Field, Marcus Stroman threw six scoreless innings and the Chicago Cubs (73-86) won their seventh straight, beating the Cincinnati Reds (60-99) 8-1 on Oct. 2, per ESPN.
Nelson Velazquez drove in four runs, helping Chicago match its best run since a seven-game streak late last year.
Now, the Cubs will conclude their season with a three-game series at Cincinnati. Contreras will travel with the team to Cincinnati but wasn't sure he'll play in that series, saying it's manager David Ross' call.
The Chicago White Sox (79-80) edged the San Diego Padres (87-72) 2-1 at Petco Park on Oct. 2.
Despite the loss, the Padres still made the playoffs after the Miami Marlins beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 in 12 innings, according to ESPN.
The Padres won a wild-card series against St. Louis after the pandemic-shortened 2020 season before being swept in the division series by the eventual World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers.
The White Sox will finish their season at Guaranteed Rate Field with a series against the Minnesota Twins starting Monday, Oct. 3.
