Back Lot Bash, now in its 10th year, has grown into a four day event starting with a Thursday night comedy program and a Friday night acoustic evening and concluding with a two day-outdoor women's music festival in Chicago's Andersonville neighborhood.
On Saturday, thousands of women raised their glasses high at the Back Lot Bash festive outdoor event, celebrating unity, inclusiveness and pride. Geared mainly toward lesbians, the outdoor concert and dance featured local and regional musicians as well as LGBT celebrities such as Gwen La Roka, Courtney Jackson, and Whitney Mixter and Sara Bettencourt.
Christiina Wiesmore, who co-founded the event in 2004, said this is the biggest turnout yet, with over 2,000 tickets sold in the first two days alone. This time around, headliners included Melissa Ferrick, Dot Dot Dot, The Gina Glocksen Band and Uh Huh her, each of which were preceded by two or three artists.
"There's nowhere else you can find this many lesbians in one place," said Caitlin Bonhom, who attended the bash for the third time on Saturday. "It's so exciting I can hardly handle it."
The bash is sponsored by Miller Lite, Hamburger Mary's, SideCar, Walgreens, SwakeGroup Real Estate (of Dream Town Realty), Kiki Calumet of A and N Mortgage, Cheetah Gym, The L Stop, Human Rights Campaign and tellofilms.com .
