We are excited to announce that after a long COVID delay, we will be holding our Back 2 School Illinois Build-A-Kit Event on Oct. 22, 2021. The day-long event, in partnership with the LGBT Chamber of Commerce of Illinois, will take place at the Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted Chicago. While we don't anticipate any major restrictions due to COVID, we are preparing for a variety of scenarios to ensure a safe, enjoyable and successful event.
This is a great opportunity for the LGBT community to give back and provide school supply kits to children from low-income families. There are two ways to participate; your company or organization can be a sponsor of the event and/or raise funds and be a part of the massive Back 2 School kit assembly day.
If you want to put together a team to raise funds and volunteer to build the kits, then send an email to info@b2si.org and indicate in the subject line that you want to sign up for the LGBT Build-A-Kit Event and provide the contact information for the team leader. A B2SI representative will then be in touch to answer any questions and get your company or organization signed up. Once registered, your company/organization will be added to the fundraising page. All participating teams will be added to the dropdown menu. This will allow donors to give them "credit" for contributions made on your behalf. The fundraising page will go live June 1st.
As for the fundraising, we recommend you start no later than August 15, so you have 6 weeks before we need to place the order for school supplies. On or about September 24, we will total up all the funds that have been donated. For every $19 raised, we will order supplies for one more kit. We hope to raise enough to assemble several thousands of kits.
Imagine the delight on all those children's faces when we deliver them their very own kit loaded with the school supplies they need.
