SAN FRANCISCO, CA Film Director Billy Clift and Ariztical films has announced that Baby Jane?, Clift's feature length campy tribute to the famous psychological thriller that originally starred Joan Crawford and Bette Davis, is now available on DVD.
Featuring drag superstars Matthew Martin and J. Conrad Frank as those twisted sisters Blanche and Baby Jane, Clift's Baby Jane? uses a cast of almost all men playing the female roles. According to Clift, "I wanted to make Baby Jane? a dark comedy, unlike a typical parody playing it only for laughs. I felt that was important in order to keep the audience's attention for a full length feature. Also unlike the original film, I felt the audience should have sympathy for Baby Jane not just Blanche. I have the audience rooting for each sister at different times, making it a roller-coaster ride of unexpected twists and turns.
The film begins with Baby Jane ( Matthew Martin ) as a famous spoiled child star, then transitions to her failed attempt at becoming like her successful movie-star sister Blanche ( J. Conrad Frank ) , until a tragic car accident snaps Blanche's spine, confining her forever to a wheelchair. Thinking she was responsible for the accident, Baby Jane gives up her career to take care of her disabled sister, waiting on her hand and foot. Until one day, Baby Jane has had enough! We watch her slowly unravel, taking it out on Blanche, the housekeeper Elvira ( Alotta Boutte ) , the nosey neighbor Mrs. Bates ( Heklina ) and Mrs. Bates' daft daughter, Gloria ( Prince Herman ) . All through this, Blanche plays the victim role when in actuality, she is just a manipulating evil big sister.
The film also stars noted actors Mike Finn, Jeff Dylan Graham and Vincent De Paul. Electro pop-duo Ejector created the soundtrack for the film's closing credits and music video.
Baby Jane? was first introduced to audiences at the Frameline Film Festival at the Castro Theater in 2010. A whirlwind national festival tour followed with sold-out crowds and rave reviews leading up to Ariztical Entertainment snagging distribution rights for the DVD release. Says Clift, "The response from audiences in theaters across the country has been tremendous. Now, with our official DVD release, we'll be able to share our twisted tale with audiences around the world."
Baby Jane? is available for purchase at most major online media outlets including www.ariztical.com and www.amazon.com and for rent at video rental stores across the country and at www.blockbuster.com and www.netflix.com
