A scholar-in-residence weekend for author Jay Michaelson will take place Nov. 1-3 at the Lakeside Congregation for Reform Judaism, 1221 County Line Rd., Highland Park.
On Friday, Nov. 1, at 8 p.m., there will be a Shabbat service and a forum, "Meditation: Brainhacking Your Way to Happiness." On Saturday, Nov. 2, at 5:30 p.m., there will be a cocktail reception, dinner and dessert ( $45 per person ) and a lecture ( free ) "Beyond the Rainbow: The Surprisingly 'Queer' Storeies of Abraham, Jacob and David, and What They Can Teach All of Us." There will also be a complimentary brunch on Sunday, Nov. 3, at 10:15 a.m., along with a lecture, "Spirituality: Or, How I learned to Stop Worrying and Love 21st-Century Judaism."
Michaelson is a writer and activist who has practiced Theravadan Buddhist meditation for 12 years. He is the author of five books, most recently God vs. Gay? The Religious Case for Equality. |
