Affinity and the ACLU are hosting a community forum on stop-and-frisk practices at the Arts Incubator, 301 E. Garfield Blvd., on Thursday, Aug. 8, at 6 p.m.
The event is happening in the wake of national and global LGBT organizations joining New York City groups in urging local lawmakers to defend historic legislation banning police profiling against a veto by Mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Stop and frisk is a practice in which police can stop, question and frisk any individual whom they think is suspicious. The goals of the meeting are to present background information on stop-and-frisk and ACLU's current research on Chicago police conduct; to gather community perspectives and experiences; and to discuss potential solutions.
