CHICAGO ─ Artemis Singers will perform free-of-charge Saturday, Dec. 21, at Block 37's Holiday Hub, 108 N. State Street, Chicago. Chicago's Lesbian feminist chorus will present music in celebration of Kwanzaa and the winter solstice from 1 p.m. — 2 p.m. in the Pedway of the indoor heated Block 37 shopping mall.
The Pedway is accessible from the CTA Red and Blue Lines' Randolph-Washington exit. Block 37 is located between State and Dearborn; and Washington and Randolph.
Founded in 1980, the 35-member Artemis Singers specializes in music written or arranged by women. Artemis Singers performed at Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's historic Marriage Equality signing ceremony November 20.
Artemis Singers has been a mainstay in lesbian feminist cultural life. Inducted into the City of Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2008, Artemis has performed at the Field Museum, the Chicago History Museum, the Chicago Cultural Center, as well as Sister Singers Network festivals throughout the U.S.
Artemis membership is open to all women singers. The chorus also provides creative opportunities for women interested in aspects of choral production: musical accompaniment, vocal instruction, songwriting and arranging, choreography, audio, performance lighting, artistic direction and stage management.
