The reality show L.A. Hair took over WE tv with lots of catfights and drama. Being a celebrity hairstylist, makeup artist and receptionist kept Anthony Pazos on the go.
This Los Angeles gay native may be young but he has already amassed himself an impressive clientele, including Khloe Kardashian and the band One Direction. Pazos was classically trained at Vidal Sasson before moving to the Kimble Hair Studio, and he has been featured on E! Style Network's How Do I Look and Split Ends.
Windy City Times talked with the stylist as the first season of the show was drawing to a close.
Windy City Times: Hi, Anthony. Talking to you on the phone in L.A. is fun, but have you ever been to our neck of the woods in Chicago?
Anthony Pazos: You know what? I haven't. I was supposed to go recently but they wanted to charge $784 to go for a few days!
WCT: What?
Anthony Pazos: I know, right? It was on Delta. It was too much money.
WCT: You have to come visit when it's cheaper. I met up with your friend, Angela Christine Stevens from the show, not too long ago.
Anthony Pazos: You know Angela? That is so funny.
WCT: Yeah, we talked about you! [Laughs]
Anthony Pazos: Oh no!
WCT: Don't worry. She said I would love you. She likes your style and wants you to do a bowtie line.
Anthony Pazos: I really should. I would have a bunch of crazy patterns and colors. I love Angela. She's my girl. She gets in trouble on the show a lot.
WCT: I noticed. How do you feel the show turned out?
Anthony Pazos: Considering it was the very first season of L.A. Hair, I was really happy about how it all went. It was obviously really dramatic [and] tempers flew, but at the end of the day I still love everybody. I get along with everybody, for the most part. During the show we are obviously at each other's necks. I was thrown into the mix all of a sudden. I don't think they expected me to fit in as much as I did. It was exciting to be accepted by a different community.
WCT: It looked like you were stuck in the middle a lot.
Anthony Pazos: Yes, and I still am. We did a press tour at the Essence Festival and, unfortunately, Angela and Kim are still not on speaking terms. It is annoying to be in the middle. If I talk to one more than the other then someone thinks I pick sides and I don't want to do that.
WCT: That's smart.
Anthony Pazos: I hang out with Angela more only because we are closer to the same age. I am basically guilty by association.
WCT: Do you ever get starstruck by any of the clients?
Anthony Pazos: I try not to. If I ever meet Natalie Portman then I will poop my pants! If I am starstruck I hide it. Oh, I was a bit by Nancy Cartwright, who does the voice of Bart Simpson.
WCT: Does she talk like that all the time?
Anthony Pazos: No; she has a normal voice, then has created that Bart voice.
WCT: You picked her when you do the Kardashians' hair?
Anthony Pazos: Yes; I like all the Kardashians but Khloe is obviously my favorite.
WCT: How did you start working at the salon in the first place?
Anthony Pazos: I only work a few days out of the week there, only when there is an appointment for me. I was introduced to Kim through producers.
WCT: So you freelance but work for her, too.
Anthony Pazos: I mostly freelance, on set or wherever they pay me to go to. I do one day of the week at a salon in Beverly Hills.
WCT: What is your specialty?
Anthony Pazos: Hair coloring and extensions.
WCT: You do all ethnicities?
Anthony Pazos: Before I met Kim I did mainly white hair but now I can whip it up, honey! I will fix those edges. I can get it!
WCT: What is your nationality?
Anthony Pazos: I am South American, English, Irish and a quarter Mexican. My dad is the mixed side and my mother is the white side. Everyone thinks I am Italian because my name is Anthony. I speak fluent Spanish, too.
WCT: I heard you are a fan of dry shampoo.
Anthony Pazos: I like dry shampoo for a guy because if they are really lazy it is perfect for them. It actually adds more texture. You just can't use it too much. For women it is a way to have longevity on their blow dry. It will make their color last longer because they are not always washing their hair. It absorbs the hold on your roots and makes you not look greasy. It has some cool effects.
WCT: How do you feel the first season went?
Anthony Pazos: There was a lot of drama. Contrary to what they say, it was all real. Obviously, it was a controlled setting but everything we are saying we said in the moment. We might not like the way it looks or how we were portrayed but that is what we said. Angela was getting a lot of haters but I think that just means we are doing something right!
WCT: In the world of hair it must happen similar to the show, [with] people stealing clients.
Anthony Pazos: Here's the deal: Kim did introduce the rapper Eve to Angela. The right thing to do is for Angela to tell Kim that Eve wanted her to do her hair. That would have saved a lot of drama. Nobody owns clients, though.
WCT: Hopefully, Angela learned a lesson.
Anthony Pazos: I hope she did, too. She probably didn't but I hope she did. She can be stubborn sometimes. In a way that is good because she knows who she is, which is nice.
WCT: What do you think of L.A. Hair, compared to Chicagolicious?
Anthony Pazos: Not to be a hater, but our show is way better. They may have more luxurious things happening throughout the show but for entertainment we blow them out of the water! I may be prejudiced because it is my show, but still…
WCT: You have some big names on your show so that is hard to compete against.
Anthony Pazos: We had Mary J. Blige, Kelly Rowland, Eve and Monica. Monica loved my haircut!
