The December chill will be no match for the hot participants in the annual Santa Speedo Run Boystown, Saturday, December 7. This ninth annual run, presented by Miller Lite and Sidetrack, will raise money to support Center on Halsted's mission of advancing community and securing the health and well-being of the LGBTQ people of Chicagoland.
Over 300 participants will don their gay apparel for a one-mile run through the heart of Lakeview, clad in nothing more than Santa hats, speedos and other holiday attire. Last year's event raised over $80,000 for Center on Halsted and the vital services the Center provides. The event draws a crowd of thousands each year, as well as drawing national and international media coverage.
The event will be held at Sidetrack Video Bar, 3349 N Halsted. Check-in and registration start at noon and the one-mile run begins promptly at 2 p.m. The run is followed with merriment, entertainment, and prizes hosted by Debbie Fox and an "afterparty" hosted by Sidetrack's own Dixie Lynn Cartwright ).
Everyone is encouraged to wear holiday attire such as a Speedo or other holiday undergarments, and a Santa hat, but it is not mandatory.
Runners are asked for a minimum $25 donation to participate. Donations may also be made directly to Center on Halsted. The full donation for the event will support Center on Halsted.
