Washington, D.C. —America250, the nationwide commemoration of America's 250th anniversary in 2026 led by the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, will host its next Community Conversation on Thursday, Sept. 23, at 4 pm ET. Members of the LGBTQ+ community and their allies are invited to share their hopes for the America250 celebration. The forum is designed to provide all communities the opportunity to speak into and shape America250 activities.
"Actively engaging and having open, honest conversations with the many diverse communities that make up our country is tremendously important," said Dr. Megan Springate, director of engagement at America250 Foundation. "We look forward to working together to ensure America250 is the most inclusive commemoration in history and represents the unique experiences, viewpoints, and hopes of the LGBTQ+ community."
The 60-minute Community Conversation will feature several esteemed panelists: Hannah Malvin, founder and director of Pride Outside and principal of Hannah Malvin Coaching & Consulting LLC; Jeffrey "Free" Harris, historian & history preservation consultant; Tracy Baim, co-publisher and president of Chicago Reader and co-founder of Windy City Times; and Kai Azada and Richard Baldwin, hosts of Closet Free Radio.

America250's ongoing series of Community Conversations aims to engage with communities across the United States and around the world leading up to 2026. In July, America250 spoke with Military Families and their communities about how America250 can support them. The next session with representatives from U.S. territories will be held in November 2021.
About America250
America250 is a multiyear effort to commemorate the semiquincentennial, or 250th anniversary, of the United States. The purpose of the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission, created by Congress, and the corresponding America250 Foundation, is to catalyze a more perfect union by designing and leading the most comprehensive and inclusive celebration in our country's history. America250 represents a coalition of public and private partners all working to create initiatives and programs that honor our first 250 years and inspire Americans to imagine our next 250. The commemoration period began in 2020, culminates on July 4, 2026, and officially concludes in 2027.
