On Aug. 1, gay congressional candidate Alex Morse lost his Democratic primary race against incumbent Richard Neal, Advocate.com reported.
Neal received about 60 percent of the vote against Morse, the mayor of Holyoke, Massachusetts. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's political action committee and the LGBTQ Victory Fund were among those endorsing Morse.
However, controversy surrounded Morse. In early August, the College Democrats of Massachusetts and its chapters at Amherst College and the University of Massachusetts at Amherst banned Morse from their events, claiming Morse had used his position as a mayor and as a part-time lecturer at UMass-Amherst to have romantic and sexual relationships with college students.
Morse said he had indeed had relationships with college students he had met on dating apps, but that none of them were in his classes and all the relationships were consensual.
