Chicago Alderman Arenda Troutman ( 20th Ward ) was arrested on Jan. 8 at her home at 6518 S. Kimbark on federal corruption charges.
FBI personnel, who executed a search warrant, were inside Troutman's home at midmorning.
The FBI questioned Troutman in 2004 about her relationship with Donnell 'Scandalous' Jehan, a fugitive Chicago gang member.
Troutman was appointed to the City Council by Mayor Richard M. Daley in 1990 to fill the vacancy of the late Alderman Ernest Jones, according to her Web site. In 1991 she defeated 20 opponents to become alderman. She is now in her fourth term.
A search warrant was also served at the alderman's ward office at 5859 S. State.
Willie Cochran, one of the challengers for Troutman's seat in the Feb. 27 aldermanic election, issued a statement that read in part, 'The 20th Ward deserves and needs to be represented from outside the jailhouse. It is a travesty that the ward's business is being ignored. Of course, Ald. Troutman is innocent until proven guilty, but it is not possible for the ward business to take care of when the Alderman is in jail or facing corruption charges.'
Bond was set at $10,000 for Troutman during an initial appearance in federal court Monday afternoon.
