The preregistration deadline for the 2012 AIDS Run & Walk Chicago has been extended to Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. for walkers only.
Preregistration has been wildly successful so far for Chicago's premier fundraising event for people living with HIV/AIDS. People can register in advance for a reduced registration fee $35 instead of the $50 fee on the day of the event. Preregistration for runners participation in the 5/10K event concludes this Friday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m.
The deadline for walkers has been extended to carry the momentum forward, said Rhett Lindsay, director of fundraising events for the AIDS Foundation of Chicago.
"Whether you're walking or running, there's still plenty of time to preregister for the AIDS Run & Walk Chicago," Lindsay said. "We're thrilled at the response so far from people determined to make a difference in the collective effort to end the AIDS epidemic."
The 2012 AIDS Run & Walk Chicago kicks off at Soldier Field on Sept. 30. Comedian Wanda Sykes and singer Michael Feinstein will be sounding the starting horns; the Voice's Jamar Rogers and Chicago's own Adam Emil will follow the event with a concert.
This year's AIDS Run & Walk Chicago features many changes, including a new logo, a new starting location and course route, and perhaps most importantly, a renewed emphasis on fundraising. The AIDS Foundation of Chicago and 35 other organizations will benefit from the proceeds, which will go directly toward lifesaving HIV prevention, medical care and other supportive services.
