AIDS Run & Walk Chicago, one of the city's most high-profile HIV/AIDS-related annual events, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Sat., Sept. 16, at Columbus and Balbo in Grant Park.
This year's event is particularly significant, as 2006 marks the 25th anniversary of the discovery of HIV, the virus that can progress into AIDS.
In addition to a 5K run and a 5K walk, the event will also feature a health expo sponsored by the Illinois Department of Public Health, where local HIV/AIDS service agencies will have booths. There will also be pre-event, course route and post-event musical entertainment.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the grant-making program of the AIDS Foundation of Chicago. The cost of registration is $20 in advance and $25 at the park. For registration materials, pledge forms and more info, see www.aidsrunwalk.org or call 312-922-2322.
