About Face Theatre is proud to present About Face Youth Theatre 2005: The Home Project. In the last six years, About Face Youth Theatre has produced six award-winning productions and three touring shows investigating the lives of Chicago's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgendered, Questioning youth and their Allies ( LGBTQA ) . This summer, AFYT is launching The Home Project, a month-long theatre laboratory exploring home and homelessness with a diverse ensemble of youth and adult artists.
The Home Project will begin public performances at Theatre Building Chicago, 1225 W. Belmont, Thursday, July 28 at 8 p.m. ( performances continue through Sunday, July 31 ) . Each performance will be followed by a youth-led community dialogue in response to the stories.
The nationally recognized About Face Youth Theatre ( AFYT ) engages LGBTQA youth in the rigorous process of creating and performing an ensemble-based play in a dynamic collaboration with accomplished adult artists to encourage youth leadership and to support youth to become agents for social change in their schools and communities.
'These stories are powerful, defiant and revelatory,' said Megan Carney, AFT Associate Artistic Director and lead artist on The Home Project. 'Each year at AFYT, we meet LGBT youth who have experienced homelessness. This year we want to dig deeper and truly listen to what's shaping their lives and sense of self. The stories have a lot to teach all of us. Maybe they can even teach us how to intervene in this crisis.'
Tickets and information are available by calling the Theatre Building Chicago box office at ( 773 ) 327-5252. There is a special student pricing of tickets.
Tickets are also available online through TicketMaster and all Ticketmaster outlets. For more information, ( 773 ) 784-8565
