Joran van der Sloot, the Dutchman who is suspected in the 2005 killing of American Natalee Holloway, has confessed to murdering Stephany Flores in Peru. According to an Advocate.com item, Flores was reportedly a lesbian.
van der Sloot, 22, was arrested June 3 in Chile and returned to Peru for questioning. He then confessed to slaying Flores, 21, after they returned to a hotel room together.
Former FBI agent Brad Garrett told ABC News that hotel-surveillance footage showed that, regarding Flores, "This may be a new experience for her to go to a hotel room with somebody she met just a few hours later. It also may play into her own issues with sexual identity problems." ABC News' George Stephanopoulos then added that Flores identified with being a lesbian, "so there may have been some shame or discomfort involved." Garrett speculated that Flores may have been killed after rejecting van der Sloot's sexual advances.
Stephanie Jimenez, Flores' former girlfriend, said that Flores was struggling with her own sexual orientation because of her disapproving parents, according to LezGetReal.com . Flores was buried June 7.
In Alabama, a grand indicted van der Sloot June 30 on charges of wire fraud and extortion in connection with in the 2005 disappearance in Aruba of 18-year-old American Natalee Holloway, who was from the Southern state, according to AFP.
