Queer Fest America, will present a multimedia PG-13 showcase to benefit El Rescate Independent Transitional Living for Homeless and HIV/AIDS Youth on Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Reggie's Rock Club, 2105 South State St., Chicago, from 4-9 p.m. Headlining are national LGBTQ musician/comedian Jonny McGovern, womb brothers Elephant, along with New York City dance-pop artist, Matt Ryanz. International LGBTQ activist also known as Ziggy 2000 from Stardust * The David Bowie Tribute Band, Lair Scott, will host and perform.
Director for El Rescate, Lourdes Lugo, states "Our mission toward youth is from the streets to the future. We wish to thank Queer Fest America for bringing thier poignant message through music and toward a crucial social service needed through-out our nation." El Rescate opened their doors on March 8, 2012 and is the only shelter of its kind in the Midwest.
Chicago bands, When Flying Feels Like Falling, Polymer Twins, Spherical Banana and Moist Guitars will be featured along with Rich Xperience, Lisa Lightning, Lars von Keitz and Julie Herrmann. Other acts include comedians, Thomas Bottoms, Patty Vaccarella, Marc Peurye and Darren Marshall.
Jonny McGovern's latest release, The Gayest of All Time, which has produced five new smash video hits including Texting on the Dance Floor, Dickmatized and Sexy Nerd now, has millions of viewers. McGovern has starred in The Big Gay Sketch Show on LOGO and his character, The Gay Pimp, was developed to empower LGBTQ kids. The Gayest of All Time is available on ITunes and Amazon.com .
Hip-Hop twins, Coleman and Jackson Vrana's 2011 single, "Queer Nation", has become the anthem, banned from MTV for its provocative lyrics, for activists around the globe. As a gesture toward Chicago's and the nation's LGBTQ homeless youth, its youth at large, Jackson insists that, "Teen fists are getting tighter. A backlash is on the way. We can feel it." Coleman continues with, "We may look like hedonistic faggots but inside we're intelligent, friendly guys, and easier to approach than you might imagine." Elephant's latest single, The Let Go and other tunes can be found on Itunes.
Ticket sales from $15.00 online and $25.00 at the door will be announced this week.
