The Cook County Democratic Party recently announced its slate of judicial candidates for the Feb. 2, 2010, primary election. Amongst a very diverse group of Circuit Court, and Appellate Court candidates, are two members of the LGBT community, Justice Sebastian T. Patti, and Supervising Corporation Counsel Linda J. Pauel.
A trailblazer for the LGBT community, Patti made history as the first openly gay man appointment to the Appellate Court in August 2009. Making history is nothing new for Patti as he was also the first openly gay man appointed, and later elected to the countywide Circuit Court in Cook County. Patti has been found qualified, recommended or highly recommended by all evaluating bar associations.
Prior to his appointment to the Appellate Court, Patti served 14 years as a Cook Circuit Court judge rising to the post of Supervising Judge of the Housing Division. He is a graduate of Duke University and the University of Kansas Law School. Before his appointment, Justice Patti was an attorney for the US Environmental agency, he was awarded the United States Government Bronze Medal for Toxics Litigation in 1984 and 1988 and for Clean Water Act Litigation in 1992. He was also awarded the United States Government Distinguished Service Award in 1993.
Pauel has been slated as a candidate for judge of the Circuit Court of Cook County by the Democratic Party. Pauel has 18 years of legal experience, working not only in private practice at Sachnoff and Weaver, Ltd. but also in the City of Chicago Department of Law. She has been found qualified, recommended or highly recommended by all evaluating bar associations.
Pauel has been an assistant corporation counsel for the City of Chicago since 1998. In that time, she has worked extensively on the enforcement of the gang loitering ordinance, and worked with the police to better enforce animal cruelty laws. Pauel is a graduate of Cornell College and Chicago Kent College of Law. |
