Flash mob in support of Out at Chicago exhibit at CHM March 25

A local activist, Elaine O'Sullivan, is organizing a flash mob to "Just say, thank you" to the Chicago History Museum for its Out in Chicago exhibit. Supporters will gather at 1 pm, on Sunday, March 25, at the Chicago History Museum "as we circle the building in thanks," she said. The Museum is at Clark Street and North Avenue

The "Out in Chicago" exhibits display 150 years of urban history through the lens of gender, sexuality and nonconformity.

Before the "Out in Chicago" exhibit closes on March 26, 2012, they will create a massive "Flash Mob" that has the power and presence of the Anita Bryant of the 1970s protest but which celebrates the opposite spirit: LOVE. "Like Satan, Anita Bryant keeps coming back," O'Sullivan said. (See www.pitch.com/plog/ .../anita-bryant-is-alive-and-up-to-her-old-tricks .)

"We simply surround the CHM to say 'Thank You' en masse to the CHM and all those dedicated folks who worked so long and hard to help create the largest, finest and most comprehensive GLBT museum exhibit in the U.S., ever," O'Sullivan said. "Let others see that we are Out in Chicago and proud that we are making a positive mark on our communities and on humanity just as any other diverse mixture of urban people has done.

"Let them know by our numbers that wanton murder, vicious beatings and blatant bigotry no longer have a place in our city or the modern world. Let the masses see the unity we share in our communities. Let them know what is possible when virulent hatred is replaced by mutual love and respect.

"And just maybe, we can generate some positive, national news coverage for gay-human rights in Chicago in one large gesture that can change how our Nation sees this part of her family."
