SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — Aug, 4, 2022 —Cook County Commissioner Kevin Morrison (District 15) has introduced a resolution calling for a public hearing in the Cook County Health and Hospitals Committee that will convene Monday, Aug. 8, at 2 p.m. The hearing will allow for the public to hear directly from Cook County Health, the Chicago Department of Public Health, and community organizations on their response to the Monkeypox outbreak throughout Cook County with a goal of increased cooperation and streamlined communication and information sharing between the entities.
"We must act swiftly if we are to quell the spread of this virus in our community" Morrison said. "Cook County has become the third largest hotspot in the country for Monkeypox. The virus has affected many vulnerable groups already. It is my hope that through cooperation, we can address this public health risk quickly. Building on the knowledge we gained from our response to the covid-19 pandemic, it's important that we disperse correct information and preventative measures to the public."
Additional testimony in support of the resolution will be provided by representatives from Cook County Health, the Chicago Department of Public Health, and Howard Brown Health Center.
For members of the public wishing to provide feedback and testimony at the hearing, registration is available up to 24 hours in advance for virtual participation through the Cook County government's website. Written testimony can also be submitted up to 24 hours in advance of the meeting via email at cookcounty.board@cookcountyil.gov .
Members of the public may watch the hearing live at this link: www.cookcountyil.gov/service/watch-live-board-proceedings . |
