The 59th Chicago International Film Festival announced select highlights of this year's festival, running Oct. 11-22.
Films will be presented at venues throughout the city, including the AMC NEWCITY 14, the Music Box Theatre, the Gene Siskel Film Center, the Chicago History Museum, the Hamilton Park Cultural Center, Harrison Park, the Reva and David Logan Center for the Arts at the University of Chicago and the Museum of Contemporary Art. They will also be presented virtually via the festival's streaming platform.
Saltburn, from Academy Award-winning filmmaker Emerald Fennell (Promising Young Woman), will be the Festival Centerpiece. The film's plot is described thusly: "Struggling to find his place at Oxford University, student Oliver Quick (Barry Keoghan) finds himself drawn into the world of the charming and aristocratic Felix Catton (Jacob Elordi), who invites him to Saltburn, his eccentric family's sprawling estate, for a summer never to be forgotten." Fennell will receive the Visionary Award on Oct. 19.
Also, Emmy winner Colman Domingo stars in the movie Rustin, which will be part of the festival's Black Perspectives program. The movie tells the story of Bayard Rustin, the openly gay architect of the 1963 March on Washington and an acclaimed architect.
Other films that will be spotlighted include Eric Laura, Academy Award-nominated Chicago actor Michael Shannon's directorial debut; the David Fincher film The Killer (partially shot in Chicago), which stars Michael Fassbender; and Justine Triet's Anatomy of a Fall, which won the Cannes Palme d'Or.
